Man charged with murder after DWI crash with his 3 children in truck
HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Houston Police Department officers responded to a multiple vehicle accident in the 8900 block of the East Sam Houston Parkway at West Road at around 1 p.m. Sunday.
Investigators say that 26-year-old Elmer Quintanilla, his 25-year-old wife and three children, ages 13 months old, 5 years old and 6 years old were traveling in a 2013 GMC Sierra pickup truck at a high rate of speed.
Quintanilla attempted to exit the West Road Toll Plaza, lost control and rear ended a late model Acura being driven by a white male subject.
The Acura rolled, striking a large brick sign, the single male driver was pronounced deceased on scene. Quintanilla then struck a female driver who was attempting to leave a private drive of a church on to the feeder.
The female was transported to Cy Fair Hospital in good condition. The truck finally stopped after hitting three unoccupied vehicles in the parking lot.
Quintanilla, his wife and all three children were transported to local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Traffic investigators have determined that Quintanilla was driving while intoxicated and had children under the age of 15 in the vehicle, a felony.
He will now be charged with the murder of the male subject who was killed, because police say Quintanilla caused the death of the male while in commission of another felony.
