Houston City Council Member Larry Green found dead
HOUSTON, TX - Houston Council Member Larry Green was found dead at his condo hear NRG Stadium Tuesday morning.
Houston police say Councilman Green's office asked them to do a welfare check after he didn't show up for a morning meeting. Police say they forced entry to his home at about 11:30 a.m. where they found him dead.
Green was 52-years-old.
Homicide detectives spent hours at the scene of Green's death, although police say he is believed to have died of natural causes. The Harris County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy on Wednesday.
Green served District K since being sworn into office in January 2012.
Mayor Sylvester Turner released a statement saying he was "shocked and grieving over the untimely death" of Green.
Green was the first and only District K council member after it's creation in municipal elections.
District K covers the area from the edge of the Texas Medical Center to the portion of Houston within Fort Bend County. The district also includes the Reliant Complex, two management districts, and two school districts—Houston ISD and Fort Bend ISD.
