Boy, 6, in critical condition after struck by vehicle
FRIENDSWOOD, Texas (FOX 26) - A six-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was riding a bicycle and was struck by a vehicle in Friendswood, The driver of the vehicle initially refused to stop but later contacted Friendswood police and surrendered to officers.
The boy lost control of the bicycle on the sidewalk and was thrust onto the street. He was struck by a white Mercury Mountaineer before 12 p.m. Saturday on FM 2351 near Woodland Trail. The driver, later identified as 61-year-old Pearland resident Kevin Guyton Caldwell, did not stop the vehicle to check on the boy's condition. A witness followed Caldwell and provided the vehicle information and a partial license plate number to police.
The child was taken to a hospital by PHI Air Medical helicopter.
Caldwell is in Friendswood police custody and charged with accident involving serious bodily injury, a 3rd degree felony offense with the bond amount set at $100,000.
