The Harris County Sheriff's Office says charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash that left a mother and child dead early Wednesday morning.
Veronica Rivas, 20, has been charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter.
Investigators say that a woman and a baby were killed in a tragic crash with a suspected drunk driver on Gulf Freeway. Police say the crash occurred right after 3:40 am this morning on the feeder road near El Dorado.
Officers said they found an adult female and a baby inside the car, and they were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and the passenger of the SUV were transported to a local hospital and are expected to survive, police said.
Police say that the driver of the SUV that struck the woman's car showed "signs of intoxication" so a blood draw was performed at the hospital. The 20-year-old driver of the SUV and a 17-year-old passenger are expected to survive.
