Murder suspect surrenders in shooting death of 16-year-old girl

A 22-year-old man who was charged in the murder of a 16-year-old girl has surrendered to the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force more than a week since her death.

Irbin Vargas turned himself in at the federal courthouse in downtown Houston at around 1 a.m. Saturday. He had been charged with murder on Friday, Sept. 14.

 

The teen girl, later identified as Lourdes Sandoval, was walking on Casa Grande Drive in northeast Houston when she was shot. She was found in a driveway after the person inside the home heard a gunshot fired at around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12. Sandoval was taken to a hospital where she later died.
