Man allegedly used lawnmower as weapon, injured girl and her mother
SANTA FE, Texas (FOX 26) - "Then I done something I wasn't supposed to do," said Johnny Manning.
What Manning says he wasn't supposed to do can be seen on video. The man egging him on is Chris Fontenot.
"He don't like me. I really don't like him," Fontenot said.
Fontenot's ex-wife Angela was Manning's roommate. Fontenot says he was dropping Angela and her daughter Sadie off at Manning's house last Saturday.
"I said 'put them back in the car and take them back where you got them, your house,'" Manning said.
Manning says he kicked Angela Fontenot out a few weeks ago, but she denies that.
"I motioned to him like that, I told him 'get out of my driveway,'" said Manning. "I don't want you in my driveway."
After Fontenot backed out of the driveway, Manning claims Fontenot invited him in the street for a fist fight.
"I can't get out and do this no more. I'm 72 years old," Manning said.
The elderly man admits he jumped on his John Deere lawnmower.
"He just came full blown speed right at us with a John Deere lawnmower with the blades to the ground," Fontenot said. "One rock came through my window, landed in my chest."
"I just saw nothing but a big old poof of air and rocks and it splattered me and hit me in my face," said Angela Fontenot.
She says a rock struck her 9-year-old daughter Sadie near her eye.
Manning says he would do it again if he had the chance, but regrets hurting the little girl.
Does Chris Fontenot think Manning deserves prison time?
"He should get some kind of time cause he thinks he's above the law," Fontenot said. "If the shoe was the other way around, I wouldn't be sitting here giving you an interview."
Manning is now charged with injury to a child with intentional bodily injury and criminal mischief, both felonies.
He also has a misdemeanor assault charge.
