Vigil to be held in Sugar Land for missing 4-year-old Maleah Davis

A vigil and balloon release will be held in Sugar Land on Wednesday evening in honor of 4-year-old Maleah Davis.

The vigil will be held at Oyster Creek Park at 7 p.m. Event organizers ask attendees to wear blue for child abuse awareness.

Maleah has been missing for a week and a half.

Yesterday, volunteers searched in Rosharon and Sugar Land for any clues in her disappearance.

In Sugar Land, volunteers walked through a dense wooded area at Cullinan Park.

"You never know what you’re looking for until you see it. I don’t care how trained you are. You’re walking in the jungle and bushes and trees. You might step in something right now that’s a clue, you never know," John Marsden said.

Equipped with rain boots and machetes, dozens of people have been dedicating up to 10 hours a day, zeroing in on patches all around Houston.

"We've been to Katy, up and down Alief. We’ve searched every park in Alief, every bayou. We’ve been to some parts of Sugar Land, Missouri City, Richmond. We’ve been to a lot of different places looking, but so far, there’s nothing," Marsden said.

It was the same unsuccessful story in Rosharon, where Texas Equusearch and Brazoria County Sheriff’s deputies spent the afternoon canvassing a deserted haunted house off Highway 288.

Sheriff’s officials said a neighbor called investigators to report an odd smell, but turns out, the scent came from a dead animal.

On Wednesday, Texas Equusearch will continue to search for Maleah in a different area of Rosharon.
