Deputies say man who caused deadly Grand Parkway crash wore ankle monitor

TOMBALL (FOX 26) — Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office say the man who caused the deadly six-car crash on Grand Parkway in the Tomball area on Wednesday is Charles Glaze, 54. Deputies also say he was wearing an ankle monitor at the time of the crash. As it turns out, FOX 26 News reported on Glaze in 2017 after he was charged with a felony crime.

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office deputies accused Glaze of attacking, binding, gagging, and using a stun device on a woman in a cemetery. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Fast forward to Wednesday when HCSO deputies say Glaze was driving a red Ford F-150 that crossed the Grand Parkway median and plowed into oncoming traffic. Glaze survived the crash but is hospitalized with head injuries, according to his mother. She also tells FOX 26 that her son has had seizures ever since he suffered a bad fall in college. She says that she believes a seizure caused the crash that killed Linda Fugitti and Michael Brown. Five other people, including Glaze, were injured in the crash.

"In my mind, I started to accept it as real, but I still haven’t accepted the fact that I’m not gonna see him again," says Troy Butler, a neighbor of Michael Brown.

Butler also says Michael and his wife Charlotte, both in their 70s, were on the road from The Woodlands to their home in Humble when the F-150 slammed into their PT Cruiser. Charlotte survived the crash but suffered a broken collarbone.

"Sometimes we don’t realize how blessed we are, when we have those people in our lives, until they’re suddenly taken away from us, and it’s those people that have made the difference in our lives while they’re here that are gonna be missed the most," adds Butler. “And that was the case with Michael Brown. He positively impacted this whole community."

Butler says that he and his wife have lived across the street from the Brown family for 15 years. He is saying a prayer for everyone involved in the crash, including the man who deputies say caused it.

"And his family as well, because nobody came out of this incident without pain," says Butler.

No charges have been filed in the crash. Deputies say it is unclear whether a seizure caused the crash or another factor. It is also unclear whether Glaze was cleared to drive based on his history of seizures.
