People in Houston paid their respects and honored the legacy of President George H.W. Bush at a public memorial tribute in front of Houston City Hall on Monday night.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turned hosted the event called "A Tribute to President George H.W. Bush." The memorial featured musical performances by the Houston Symphony, gospel music star Yolanda Adams, country music star Clay Walker, and country music stars Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers.

Prayers were offered by clergy organized by Interfaith Ministries of Greater Houston.

Members of the public also paid tribute to President Bush by wearing colorful socks. The former president was well-known to wearing socks with fun patterns that sometimes matched the theme of an event or holiday. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner had encouraged attendees to don a colorful pair in remembrance.

Volunteers also collected new pairs of colorful socks at the door to benefit the Interfaith Ministries Meals on Wheels program.
